Shingles Vaccine Should Be Publicly Funded: Grey Bruce Board Of Health

The Grey Bruce Board of Health would like to see the vaccine for shingles publicly funded.

Currently the vaccine costs several hundred dollars and is out of reach for many who need it most, mainly seniors.

Medical Officer of Health Dr. Hazel Lynn says shingles can be a very painful and serious condition.

"It can be life threatening in the very elderly, but it certainly takes the pleasure out of older peoples' lives if they get a nasty case of it, and it can last for months and years," says Lynn.

The Grey Bruce Board of Health calls on the government to add the shingles vaccine to the list of publicly funded vaccines for adults.
