Shoreline And Water Quality Threats Are Worldwide

The Great Lakes program coordinator for Environment and Climate Change Canada says there are common threats to shoreline ecosystems around the world.

But Janette Anderson told guests at last night's Ausable Bayfield Conservationist of the Year dinner that while problems like excess nutrients, climate change, industrial discharges, and shoreline alterations don't recognize borders or boundaries, neither do the groups and organizations that have formed to address them.

Anderson says over the last 30 years, governments and community groups with different agendas have been able to improve the health of their common shorelines.

She adds the success of Huron Clean Water and Clean Beaches programs have been used as examples in many events she's attended.

The ABCA Conservationist of the Year Award went to the Lambton Shores Phragmities Community Group and the Student Environmental Award went to Barb Alber.
