Local Speeder Flees Into Swamp Near Georgian Bluffs

A 27-year-old Tara male is facing numerous charges after police pursuit late Thursday night.

Just after 11pm, a vehicle was stopped after being caught doing 130 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Hwy. 21 west of Hwy. 6 in the Township of Georgian Bluffs.

Once stopped, the lone driver fled from the vehicle and took off on foot into a swamp area. The OPP Canine Unit and Emergency Response Team assisted in the search.

Just after 1am this morning, a man emerged from the swamp and approached an OPP cruiser. He was without shoes or socks.

The man was taken to hospital for hypothermia treatment. Brandon Macdonald, 27, of Tara was charged with the following offences:

- Driving a motor vehicle without a licence - Stunt driving (Speeding by 50 km/h or more) - Driving a motor vehicle without currently validated permit - Operating a motor vehicle without insurance

His driver’s licence has been suspended and his vehicle, a 2012 Honda, was impounded.

He is scheduled to appear in court on May 9, 2016 in Owen Sound.
