Southgate CAO Presents Surprising Statement

Southgate CAO Dave Milliner has made an impassioned plea to council for "change."

In a prepared statement read during council Wednesday, he cited numerous grievances and charged that some members of council are "bullying" staff and making unreasonable demands on their time.

He said he is going public with his concerns because the public has a right to know what’s going on.

In his remarks and written statement, Milliner mentioned the names of two members of council, Mayor Anna-Marie Fosbrooke and Councillor Christine Gordon.

Mayor Fosbrooke responded that in order to make an informed decision, it sometimes involves asking a lot of questions. Councillor Gordon was not at the meeting.

Milliner also explained that his absence from work for about six weeks last fall resulted from two letters being sent by one member of the public to Mayor Fosbrooke, making accusations against him and suggesting he be fired.  The accusations turned out to be unfounded.

A councillor said outside the meeting that the legal costs to straighten out the mess added up to about $50,000.
