Conservation Authorities Watching Rainfall Totals

The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority issued a Watershed Conditions Statement today, but it's not as grim as past years.

Rivers and streams are free of solid ice, so the risk of ice-jam related flooding is minimal.  A majority of the snowpack is expected to melt by tomorrow.

The most significant impact will be from the predicted 20 to 30 millimeters of rain late Wednesday and Thursday.

With stream levels already elevated, heavy rainfall on saturated ground would result in a quick water level rise.   There would be a risk of flooding in traditional low-lying areas if the rainfall total is higher than that.

Residents are reminded to stay away from all watercourses.
