North Perth Council Reviews Future of Library Branches

North Perth Council, in a committee of the whole meeting Monday night, reviewed the plans put in place for the future of North Perth Public Libraries.

Council last year put a plan in motion to change the service model of the libraries after hosting many public meetings regarding the future of the Monkton and Atwood branches.

Recent staff estimates and council plans were reviewed as well as the proposed multi-year budget.

Library board CEO, Rebecca Dechert Sage, spoke about the current state as a 3 branch model and discussing the future of it with council.

"I think it's good and meaningful to have direction from council, and to talk these things through as far as the funding structure and how best to move forward.   This is all progress."

Council voted to create 3 sub-committees, each one dedicated to one of the North Perth Library locations.    All libraries must be completely accessible to all residents by 2025, and budget decisions are coming with regards to how best to tackle numerous construction upgrades that need done at all 3 locations.
