Huron County Will Fund G-2-G Trail Grant Request

Huron County council has approved a funding request from the Goderich to Guelph Rail Trail committee. But county C-A-O Brenda Orchard explains there are some conditions attached to the motion.

G2G had been asked for 70-thousand dollars to leverage a grant of 175-thousand dollars from Cycling Infrastructure Ontario.

G2G had said they would raise the 70-thousand dollars but Orchard says the county received an email last week from Cycling Infrastructure Ontario saying in order to qualify for the grant the 70-thousand dollars had to come from the county.

Orchard also points out the county's Economic Development Board has already committed 20-thousand dollars to G2G and there was 16-thousand dollars from last year's budget that was ear-marked for G2G but was not spent so the net commitment from the county is actually just 34-thousand dollars.

Council approved the motion to advance the 70-thousand dollars contingent on receipt of the 175-thousand dollar grant.

G2G spokesperson Paul Vander Molen pointed out all of the money would be spent in Huron County using local businesses and local supplies.
