Vanastra The Focus Of Television Show

A CBC Television crew will descend on the village of Vanastra later this month.

Huron East Economic Development Officer Jan Hawley explains they'll be in Vanastra for about a week to tape a segment of a show called Still Standing hosted by Jonny Harris.

Hawley says the show is about small Canadian towns that have had some challenges and are bouncing back. She adds she believes the original attraction of Vanastra was due to its history as the home of radar and that will be part of the focus of the show.

But she says they'll also talk about what's going on in Vanastra now and what is planned for the future.

Hawley says the show will be taped on February 5, 2016 and the public will be invited to sit in on that but the location hasn't been determined yet.

Hawley says she's been working with producers of the show for about three months on lining up interviews and believes it was a study by former Huron County Planner Wayne Caldwell that originally caught the interest of the producers.
