Patients First Initiative To Look At CCAC's

One of the proposals in the province's "Patients First" initiative is to take a look at how home care services are coordinated through the Community Care Access Centres.

Huron-Perth Healthcare Alliance CEO Andrew Williams fully supports that initiative if it results in bringing the planning process closer to the patient, at the local level. Williams says the proposal would also take a look at the role the Local Health Integrated Network would play in that as well.

Williams points out the LHIN is currently a planning agency but if they become a service provider that would be a significant change. But he adds if that results in bringing the planning and decision-making closer to the local level the better that will be for the patient and their family. He also points out that should be the primary focus in any changes that are made.

Williams says the proposal at this point doesn't go into detail so it's difficult to speculate on what changes will be made but he adds it's very important that all of the stakeholders be involved in the discussion.
