Upper Grand Student Vote 2015 Results

Upper Grand District Secondary school students joined their counterparts across the country by voting to coincide with the federal election. 47 schools with the board registered for Student Vote 2015. Students in the Perth Wellington riding elected Liberal Stephen Mcotter with over 37 per cent of the vote. The board covers four ridings, and in 3 of 4 ridings students voted for the liberal Candidate. Nationally, over 850,000 students voted, resulting in a Liberal majority, with 223 seats going red, 69 for the tories, and 40 seats for the NDP. The Charity CIVIX Canada organized the vote. CEO Taylor Gunn says the numbers reflect an incredible effort by educators to ensure students grow into good citizens who participate in the democratic system.

“It is astounding that more than 850,000 young Canadians took part in this year’s Student Vote from nearly every riding in the country,” said Taylor Gunn, President and CEO of CIVIX Canada, the non-partisan charity that organized the vote.

“These numbers are a reflection of the incredible effort put forth by Canadian educators to ensure that, by using Student Vote in their classrooms, they are building their students into citizens,” said Gunn.
