Huron Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson wants routine safety inspections for wind turbines. Thompson asked the Liberal Minister of Environment and Climate Change today to commit to enforcing safety audits and standards for the giant turbines. Thompson says there have been reports of debris falling off of the turbines, and that could result in harm to anyone who is hit. She has also been told that farmers in the Municipality of Bluewater have been told to stay 300 meters away from the turbines due to those concerns. They also have to notify wind farm operators when they want to harvest crops, so the rotation can be slowed. She says not only are unwilling communities forced to host the expensive experiment, the safety of the residents is being put at risk. Environment Minister Glen Murray has not yet committed to any routine safety audit.
