Restrictions Placed On Backyard Chickens In Minto

Urban Minto residents wanting chickens in their backyard, got bad news Tuesday.

Council decided by a narrow four to three vote not to allow backyard chicken coops in residential areas.

Councillor Judy Dirksen was the most outspoken in opposition. She cited concerns including health and safety, enforcement, and neighbour against neighbour.

Mayor George Bridge who voted in favour of keeping a few hens, suggested allowing them on a trial basis.
