Now the emergency pitch is being sent to the contacts on hacked accounts.

The scam usually involves a story that the victim needs money. The so called victim could claim to be stranded while travelling, or in a car accident, or they lost all of their money and ID.

Police urge residents to verify unsolicited contacts before responding, especially if it involves an urgent requests for funds.

Only use trusted computers to access your email, and use a strong password.
