West Grey Camera Mystery Concerns Neighbours

The mystery continues of what could be surveillance cameras found near Michael Schmidt's farm. And now Schmidt's neighbours are concerned.

Earlier this week we reported Schmidt found two video cameras hidden in two spots in the ditch on the concession near his home outside Durham.

Schmidt reported it to the West Grey Police Service. He says Chief Rene Berger told him they know who owns the cameras, but won't tell him who or why they're there.

Andrew Smith lives two farms away from Schmidt.

"When Michael had talked to Chief Berger and he said he couldn't reveal the nature of the cameras or who they were coming from because of privacy issues, I think they're totally disregarding the whole neighbourhood, just not Michael Schmidt. They're invading everybody's privacy," says Smith.

There's a small elementary school just up the road from where the cameras were found. That's another reason to worry says Smith.

"There might be a plausible explanation as to who or why the cameras were put up, but in the interim, when they don't want to explain to you what is going on, then yeah, of course we're upset. I mean, these are children that the pictures are being taken of."

Berger has said he can't comment on the matter because it's under investigation. He couldn't be reached for comment today.

Michael Schmidt has long had legal problems for marketing unpasteurized dairy products.
