The SIU says there are no grounds to charge an OPP officer after a 29-year old man was hurt near Wroxeter in December of 2014.
On the night of December 4 and into the morning of December 5, police tried to pull over a car in South Bruce but the car sped off at a high rate of speed. The car was then spotted near Wroxeter an hour and a half after the first encounter. When a Huron County OPP offficer turned on the cruiser's emergency lights, the car then sped away again.
A chase ensued and the suspect vehicle turned onto McDonald Line, a gravel road, that's when the pursuing officer ended the pursuit.
The suspect vehicle was later found on the C Line Road and investigators determined that when the car tried to make a right curve at a high rate of speed, it spun out of control, hit a hydro pole and broke into pieces.
The driver was ejected.
He was later identified as Anthony Dillon, 29-years old, of Brussels.
He was taken to a London hospital after suffering fractures to his spine and skull.
The SIU assigned four investigators, two forensic investigators and one collision reconstructionist to probe the circumstances of the incident and as part of the investigation, two civilian witnesses and three witness officers were interviewed.
And SIU Director Tony Loparco concludes that the injuires resulted in the decision of the suspect to drive recklessly away from an officer on a dirt road well after the second pursuit had been called off.
