The latex balloons explode at high altitudes, littering the land with bits and pieces which can cause problems when eaten by farm animals or pets.
Minto council was told that three local groups, including two schools, have launched balloons in the past year. Minto will ask the three groups to refrain from doing it again.
It will also not allow any balloon releases from municipal property.
