Local Conservation Authority Urging Comments

The Ministry of Natural Resources is currently conducting a review of the Conservation Authorities Act which was established in 1946.

Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority Manager Kate Monk says a few revisions have been made since then, but the responsibilities of conservation authorities has changed dramatically and the legislation needed to be updated. The Discussion Paper is posted on the Environmental Registry and the 90-day comment period started a couple of weeks ago.

Because the Asauble Bayfield Conservation Authority is a local and community-based organization, officials are urging members of the public, as well as member municipalities, to comment.

Monk adds funding will be part of the conversation and core funding hasn't changed since 1996 but costs have risen.
