A group of about 100 Hensall residents have signed a petition asking Bluewater council for approval to put an off-leash dog park on land behind the arena.
Spokesperson Dennis Schneider told council last night homeowners around the area are on-board with the proposal.
Among the supporters was nine-year-old Lauryn McDonald who presented a jar with $122 dollars that she raised during the Hensall-wide yard sale to help with construction of the park.
For her effort, Lauryn received an ovation from councillors.
Schneider estimates total costs for the project to be between three and five-thousand dollars for fencing with minimal annual costs after that for maintenance.
Schneider explains the area they've chosen is an open area in a bush lot behind the arena.
He points out they're not asking the municipality for any money - just approval of the site so they can start fundraising.
