North Perth E Bike Operator Charged after RIDE Check

A North Perth man operating an E-bike has been charged after being stopped in a RIDE program in Listowel Saturday night.

Police say neither the driver nor passenger were wearing helmets.

In speaking with the operator, the officer determined he had been drinking and administered a roadside breath test on him.

The 27-year-old male failed the test and was taken to the Stratford Police Service where he failed two Intoxilyzer breath tests. Police note, that because an E-bike is considered a motor vehicle under the Criminal Code of Canada, the driver has been charged with 'driving with more than 80 mgs. of alcohol in his blood and has lost his licence for 90 days.

All E-bike operators must also wear an approved bicycle or motorcycle helmet at all times.
