Goderich Defers Funding For Lobby Group Against School Closures

Goderich council has deferred a request for a contribution from the Community School Alliance.

The alliance is a fairly new organization formed to lobby against school closures in Ontario.

Goderich CAO Larry McCab says the request was for a contribution of $3,000.

"We wanted to know a bit more about the mandate of that group," McCabe tells CKNX News. "We wanted to know how they calculated the amount of $3,000 for the Town of Goderich and the formula."

Goderich councillors wanted to know how that figure was arrived at and what will be done with the money and would it become an annual levy.

McCabe says council wants more answers before they make a decision.

McCabe says the Victoria Public School in Goderich was closed a few years ago, but that's worked out fairly well because there were other schools within the municipality. He says that's not necessarily the case when it comes to closing the only school in a community.
