Environment-Based Presentations Set For Saugeen Shores

Saugeen Shores is hosting a series of environment-focused educational presentations again this summer.

The town has partnered with Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation, Butterfly Gardens of Saugeen Shores, and Community Foundation Grey Bruce to bring these talks to the community. Speakers will discuss beaches, birds, and butterflies among other topics.

There are four weekly discussions, starting Thursday, July 23, and running each Thursday at 7pm until August 13.

Sessions scheduled for this summer are:

  • Thursday, July 23 – "Flight of the Butterfly" - at Pioneer Park
  • Thursday, July 30 – "Piping Plovers on our Beaches" - at Emmett McGrath Pavilion (Port Elgin Main Beach)
  • Thursday, August 6 – "The Beach Environment: Ask your questions" - at Gobles Grove
  • Thursday, August 13 – "Microbeads in our Great Lakes" - at Pioneer Park
The sessions are free and no registration is required.

"There is definitely an interest from the public for this type of educational talk, and our citizens need to be aware of the impact our actions have to our beaches, ” says Jayne Jagelewski, director of community services with the Town of Saugeen Shores. "Each year we have questions brought to us regarding environmental concerns. These talks provide an opportunity for the public to get answers from experts on the subject."
