Goderich Reviews Agreement with Port Management

The C-A-O for Goderich told council last night the scaled down harbour expansion is still on the table.

But Larry McCabe says it's time to review the current contract between the town and the Port Management Corporation before they proceed with the expansion.

McCabe explains the original 47-million dollar, 15-acre expansion was reduced to three acres at a cost of about 16-million dollars when Compass Minerals pulled out of the deal. McCabe adds seven million dollars of that funding will come from the MTO and 9.5 million from a harbour reserve fund. But McCabe says they have to clarify some of the conditions with the current agreement.

McCabe points out the the objectives of the agreement - that the harbour be self-sustaining, that the public continue to have access to the habour, and the harbour users enjoy lower fee than they had to pay the federal government have been met.

But he adds it's time to take a look at a revised or new contract before proceeding with the proposed harbour expansion.
