Dogs on Port Elgin Beach Cause Concern

Dogs were a hot topic at The Port Elgin and Saugeen Beachers Association annual meeting.

Saugeen Shores Police Service Inspector Ken McCulloch says residents voiced concern about dogs on the beach.

McCulloch reminds dog owners that the pets are not allowed on the beach between June and October.

He says dogs can be walked along the Promenade in Port Elgin, and the Southampton Boardwalk, if they are on a short leash.

Dogs are allowed on the gravel shore area at the North Shore Park near the boat launch, where they can cool off in the water.

Dog owners can be fined $100 for having a dog in a prohibited area.
