Chicken Renderings Close Perth County Road

The OPP was forced to close part of Perth Line 56 for five hours overnight after chicken renderings spilled on the road just east of Topping.

A truck driver, who was transporting the cargo, made a hard stop to avoid another vehicle just before 9:15pm.   While he avoided a collision, police say the contents of the truck, which had not been covered with a tarp, spilled onto the road due to the sudden stop.

The chicken trimmings coated a 100 meter section of the road, making it slippery.

The Ministry of the Environment was advised of the spill.  The road was closed until 2:30am on Wednesday.

The 44-year-old truck driver from St. Marys has been charged with not properly securing a load on a commercial vehicle under the Highway Traffic Act.
