Scaled Back Goderich Harbour Expansion Plans

Plans for a scaled-down expansion of the Goderich Harbour are proceeding.

Goderich C-A-O Larry McCabe explains Compass Minerals pulled its funding out of the original 47-million-dollar, 15-acre expansion. But they have 9.5-million-dollars in a Major Infrastructure Reserve account and the MTO has budgeted 7.1- million-dollars for the scaled-down expansion.

McCabe says that would allow them to build a new wharf and add three acres of new land, with the potential to add to that as the need arose.

At this point they're waiting for confirmation that the MTO funding is still in play and that the users of the Harbour support the 16-million-dollar expansion.

McCabe points the other concern is we're already into July and the window for construction is limited.
