The re-construction of the bridge over the Bayfield River has been moved back a couple of years.
Bayfield Ward Councillor Bill Whetstone says pending funding approval, he doesn't expect work will actually start on the bridge at the north end of Bayfield until the summer of 2018 at the earliest.
Whetstone adds he believes part of the delay is the size as well a the complexity of the project.
Whetstone points out the new bridge will have to include a pedestrian walk similar to the one that exists now as well as accommodate snowmobiles in the winter and bicycles in the summer.
Whetstone also points out the work will require the construction of a temporary two-lane bridge while work is being done on the permanent bridge because the nearest detour would be all the way over to Varna in the east.
Whetstone explains the first step in building that temporary bridge will involve acquiring the land to do it.
Whetstone says the MTO hopes to have preliminary design drawings ready to present to council within the next couple of months.
