North Perth Exceeds Rainfall Record

North Perth has set a record for rainfall in the area.

An average 160 mm of rain fell between June 8 and June 15, which is nearly three times what is expected for the month of June. It is also a record in the 25 years of rainfall data in Listowel. The rainfall amount exceeds the previous record, set in June 2000, by 35%.

Stephen Jackson, flood and erosion safety services co-ordinator at the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority, says it's fortunate that the rainfall was sufficiently spaced to avoid major flooding.

"This one week event far exceeded the design capability of municipal drains," says Jackson in a news release. "Ponded water will continue for several days even without additional rain."

With rain expected Thursday and over the weekend, the conservation authority will continue to monitor weather forecasts, rainfall, and water levels.
