One Dead, Three Seriously Injured After Wellington County Crash

A Holstein woman is dead and another three are in hospital with serious injuries after a two-vehicle collision just south-east of Fergus Friday night.

Police say a Honda Civic collided with a Volkswagen Jetta on Trafalgar Rd. between Wellington County Rd. 50 and Wellington County Rd. 42 before 10:45pm.

The driver of the Honda, 47-year-old Janice Bye of Holstein, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two passengers of the Civic, an 18-year-old girl from Holstein and an 18-year-old girl from Hanover, were taken to a local hospital and transferred to a Hamilton hospital with serious injuries. They are listed in critical but stable condition.

The driver of a Volkswagen, 47-year-old Michael Canavan of Erin, faces charges of impaired driving causing death, impaired driving causing bodily harm, and driving over 80 mg contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He was also transported to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries and held for an audio bail hearing.
