Meaford Defers Staffing Review Pending Strategic Plan

Meaford's council has voted to defer hiring someone to review staffing levels.

The resolution was put forward by Deputy mayor Harley Greenfield at an in-camera meeting last week. Greenfield said the purpose was to hire someone to determine if the municipality could reduce the number of full-time positions. Greenfield repeated the aim of his motion at Monday’s council meeting.

In his resolution, Greenfield said the money saved by cutting redundant staff positions could be used toward upgrading Meaford’s roads. The resolution also cited a study that shows Meaford will need vast amounts of money over the next 25 years to pay for all the needed infrastructure improvements.

Mayor Barbara Clumpus says reducing municipal staff needs to wait until council finishes a strategic plan to provide a clear picture of the services they need and those that can be deleted.
