One World Festival In Owen Sound

Hundreds of people enjoyed and participated in the fifth annual One World Festival in Owen Sound today.

Singers, dancers, storytellers and others were on hand to let people know the importance of different cultures from around the world and here at home.

School children from the area were bussed in to participate.

Organizer Colleen Purdon says it's often a challenge for people to realize the importance of diversity.

"Differences make people afraid. There's a lot of fear about differences, but we would like to see difference celebrated so that's what we're about" said Purdon.

Purdon says the One World Festival in Owen Sound this year is especially important considering comments made recently by area M-P Larry Miller that gave the impression people of different cultures are not welcome.
