A request for french immersion in Huron County was discussed at the Avon Maitland District School Board meeting last night.
The only public schools to offer french immersion are in Stratford where they have the critical mass in the immediate vicinity of the schools.
Director Ted Doherty explains when the issue came up one year ago the board compiled a survey for incoming junior kindergarten families and they'll do that again this year.
That information will be presented to the board in about one month.
Doherty adds there would be some staff implications in creating French Immersion in an existing school, but those costs would be negligible.
He says the biggest issue would be the transportation costs involved in getting students from all over the county to one location.
