No Approval Yet For Wellington North Gravel Pit

A controversial gravel pit at the north end of Wellington North is being held up by Wellington North council.

Council heard the proponent of the pit, H. Bye Construction of Mount Forest, has met the requirements of the County Official Plan. And the company was under the impression it had addressed the concerns of local residents.

But council wants to see a traffic impact study, among other things, before making its comments known to the County.

The final decision on the official plan amendment for the pit lies with Wellington County Council.

Wellington North Mayor Andy Lennox explained, "I think council is just looking for a bit more information. There are concerns about road safety and noise mitigation, and we’re looking for more information before we can let this application proceed from our end."
