Goderich Council Keeps Taxes Down

The mayor of Goderich says his council has met its goal for its first budget.

Kevin Morrison says the objective for the new council was to maintain the status quo for its first budget and then start looking at how councillors can improve on that over the next three years.

Morrison notes the municipal increase is two per cent, but combined with the county and education assessment, it results in a final zero per cent budget.

No services had to be cut to get there and while some money was taken out of reserves, Morrison says the town's reserves are very healthy.

Morrison adds one reserve that has helped the town is the police reserve. He explains the town had put money away to build up the reserve, but the new OPP billing model actually helps the town.
