Huron Bruce MP Ben Lobb has tabled a private members motion to strengthen measures to prevent dementia.
Lobb is calling for concrete measures to prevent conditions like Alzheimer's disease, and reduce the impact on victims and their families.
M-575 calls for increased education and awareness, and a plan to share best practices throughout all jurisdictions.
It encourages international relationships, and improved partnerships with Dementia organizations.
Lobb says it will educate and provide support to families affected by dementia as well as recognizing the important role that care givers play.
Lobb says the disease that currently affects over 747,000 Canadians and continues to grow.
“The Alzheimer Society commends this motion and welcomes any movement towards addressing the needs of all Canadians affected by dementia and its mounting toll on our economy and society. The Society will keep working with parliamentarians and government. Better integrated care and research across the country is the only solution to changing the course of this disease and ensure those affected by it have the best possible quality of life and support,” says Mimi Lowi-Young, CEO of the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
