Stratford's Birmingham Conservatory Gets $1.5-Million Pledge

Funding for the Stratford Festival’s actor training program has been bolstered by a $1.5-million pledge.

The funding from Charles and Marilyn Baillie with be provided to the Birmingham Conservatory for Classical Theatre over three years.

The festival intends to maximize the pledge by applying to the Canadian Heritage Department’s Endowment Incentives component of the Canada Cultural Investment Fund.

It provides matching funds of up to $1 for every dollar raised from private donors for endowment purposes.

The conservatory is a 20-week intensive program providing training by some of the world’s greatest coaches and theatre artists to eight to 12 young actors each year.
