The warden of Bruce County will not elaborate on why several employees have been let go.
Mitch Twolan issued a news release prior to Thursday's county council session, announcing the county had concluded an investigation last week following an internal complaint received in November regarding alleged inappropriate use of the county e-mail system.
Published reports have suggested between four and eight employees have been let go, though Twolan declined to comment on those reports.
Following a half-hour long closed meeting with a county lawyer, Twolan announced he would be following legal advice and would not comment beyond what had already been made public through his news release.
"I know there's a lot of questions out there, I just know there's people wanting to know certain things, but at the end of the day, we are protecting the Corporation of the County of Bruce, and that's where I'm going to leave it," says Twolan.
Two department heads were absent from the council session on Thursday and their nameplates had been removed from the council chambers, however Twolan would not say if those individuals were involved in the investigation.
"I have no comment on any of that," says Twolan.
When asked if the matter is potentially heading to litigation, Twolan again declined to comment.
