Alzheimer Disease Awareness Month Focuses on Women.

January is Alzheimer Disease Awareness month, and this year the focus is on women.

The executive director of the Alzheimer Society of Grey Bruce, Deborah Barker says women represent 72 per cent of Canadians living with the disease.

The main reason is that women live longer than men and age is a significant risk factor in developing Alzheimer's Disease. Barker adds about 70 per cent of caregivers of people with Alzheimer's Disease are women, so women are doubly impacted by this disease.

The annual Alzheimer Disease Walk for Memories fundraiser this year is January 31st.
