Minto continues to be concerned about the loss of nine nursing home beds from Caressant Care Facility in Harriston.
A recent public meeting saw widespread uneasiness in the community about the loss of jobs, longer wait times for beds, and the possibility that the beds will never come back. Caressant Care has committed to improving the quality of care and keeping on staff.
Minto council is sending a letter to the Ministry of Health expressing its concerns about the bed loss.
Mayor George Bridge says he will raise the issue of funding inequities in long term care facilities when he meets with provincial officials at the Good Roads convention in Toronto in February.
"It’s a private industry so we don’t have a lot of control, but we will send to the ministry our concerns to make sure our seniors are well looked after in their twilight years," says Bridge.
