Gowing Is Huron County Warden

Morris-Turnberry mayor Paul Gowing will serve as Warden for Huron County.

He was elected by his peers this afternoon on a second ballott. Gowing will serve in the position for two years.  His priorities are economic development, getting broadband to the all areas in the county and dealing with provincial funding cuts.

"We're all dealing with cuts to transfer payments," says Gowing.  "And if you really look at what's in place, the system is 40 years old.  And we have had a downloading of the infrastructure on to us.  Where do we have the tax base to look after that infrastructure?"

Huron East Mayor Bernie MacLellen and Township of Howick Reeve Art Versteeg also ran for warden.
