Meaford Doesn't Want New Cell Tower

Cell phone towers have joined wind turbines as 'unwelcome structures' in Meaford.

Council voted Monday to send letters to the CRTC, explaining the concerns of many residents about a proposal by Rogers Telecommunications to build a cell phone tower in Meaford.

In his resolution, Deputy Mayor Harley Greenfield asked the CRTC to refuse Roger's proposal, saying it stirred up considerable concern among residents about the possible health effects and lower property values caused by such towers.

Greenfield feels many Meaford residents would prefer to wait until underground fibre optics or other choices become available.
