The Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation has presented this year's Green Ribbon Beach Award to Evergreen Resort on the Bruce Peninsula.
Communications Co-ordinator Karen Alexander explains Evergreen Resort won the award primarily because owners Michael and Debbie Bennett have left their beach alone.
Alexander says the Bennetts have taken a hands-off approach by leaving the shoreline in its natural state. That allows water levels to change over time and leaves natural buffers in place.
Alexander adds by practicing good beach stewardship, the Bennetts offer visitors to Evergreen Resort a natural experience as well as educating them on what they can do to preserve nature. This is also the first time the Green Ribbon Beach Award has been presented to someone on the Bruce Peninsula.
