The Vice-Chair of the Bayfield Arena Community Partners came to Bluewater council last night with a progress report and a request.
Bill Whetstone was happy to report their fund-raising and arena 'hours of use' was on target. Projections for the period from June to November and well above the same period last year before their group started operating the arena. Whetstone said that target was met during what's called a shoulder season for the arena.
Whetstone added one of the unexpected costs they're run into is insurance. They've found that most of the events they run require insurance, and the cost of insurance takes up most of their profit. So their request was that the group become a committee of council, thereby falling under the municipality's insurance.
Bliuewater Council approved a motion asking staff to look into how that could be done and bring a report back to the council meeting on December 15th.
