Motorcyclist suffers life-threatening injuries in south London crash

A motorcyclist is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after a two-vehicle crash at a busy south London intersection.

The bike and another vehicle collided at Wellington Road and Commissioners Road East around 10:20 a.m. on Tuesday.

The motorcyclist suffered injuries described as life-threatening and was sent to hospital. The driver of the other vehicle remained on scene, London police said.

The intersection was closed as police investigate the cause of the crash. During that closure London Health Sciences Centre took to social media to ask drivers not to use nearby Victoria Hospital as a throughway, stressing access needs to be kept clear for emergency services. Patients with appointments were also advised to leave extra time to get to the hospital.

The intersection was reopened around 2:15 p.m.

"The investigation is in its early stages and more information will be provided as appropriate," police said in a statement.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call police at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
