Gas leak forces evacuation of several St. Thomas buildings

Multiple buildings in downtown St. Thomas had to be evacuated because of a natural gas leak.

Firefighters were called about the leak at a business on Talbot Street between Manitoba and Alma streets around 11 a.m. on Friday.

No details about what caused the gas leak have been released.

Buildings in the area were temporarily evacuated as a safety precaution and the one block stretch of Talbot was closed to the public. It was reopened around 1 p.m. and the occupants of all but one of the buildings were allowed to return.

Enbridge crews remained on scene in the afternoon making repairs.
