Charges laid in Southwold home invasion

Provincial police in Elgin County say charges have now been laid in connection with a violent home invasion in 2022.

The Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police said the investigation began after the incident on June 7, 2022. Around 3:30 p.m. that day, police were called to a home on Fingal Line in Southwold Township.

According to police, a man who was posing as a delivery person knocked on the door and forced his way in when the resident answered.

"A physical altercation then ensured when a second unknown person entered the home and began to assault the owner," police said. "Both suspects fled from the residence in an unknown direction in a black coloured, long styled sedan."

The resident of the home was taken to hospital and treated for serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

On April 10, 2024, a suspect was charged.

Kiefer Clarke, 20, of Cambridge is charged with robbery with intent, unlawfully being in a dwelling house, assault with a weapon, administering a noxious thing, and robbery with intent to steal a firearm.

Clarke has been released on bail and will appear in court on May 7.

Police are still trying to determine the identity of the other individual.

Anyone with information is asked to call Elgin OPP  at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
