Manitoba man charged with trafficking woman in London

A set of stolen licence plates helped lead London police to a man they believed was trafficking a woman in the south end of the city.

Police were in the area of Wellington Road South and Wilkins Street on Thursday afternoon when they spotted a vehicle bearing stolen licence plates in a parking lot. Officers saw a man behind the wheel and a woman exit the vehicle's passenger side and go into a nearby hotel.

"The investigation revealed that the suspect male had advertised sexual services of a female, and was financially benefiting from those services," police said in a statement issued Friday.

A 54-year-old man from Manitoba was arrested. He is charged with material benefit from sexual services, advertising another person's sexual services, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

The man is scheduled to appear in London court in relation to the charges on June 3.
