Pot left on hot stove cause of London apartment fire

Unattended cooking is behind an early morning apartment fire in London.

Fire crews were called to the highrise on Grenfell Drive, east of Adelaide Street North, around 6:10 a.m. on Monday. When firefighters arrived, they were met with light smoke in the 7th floor hallway. Inside a unit on the same floor, a pot was found unattended on a hot stove.

The fire was quickly doused and the smoke vented from the unit and hallway.

No injuries were reported and a damage estimate was not immediately available.

Fire officials are using the incident as a reminder of the importance of remaining in the kitchen when cooking.

"Always stand by your pan. Unattended cooking fires are the number one cause of preventable house fires," a fire department spokesperson said.
