Man who died after downtown fight remembered for kindness, humour

London police say a man who was involved in a fight downtown last week has died of his injuries.

According to police, the fight happened on Richmond Street around 1:20 a.m. on Thursday, March 28. One of the men was seriously injured and taken to hospital. On Tuesday, he died in hospital.

The deceased has been identified as Malik Nathaniel Edwards, 21, of London.

Police have arrested another man, although there's been no word yet on charges. Police say the men did not know each other.

Anyone with information in relation to this incident is asked to call the London Police Service at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Information can also be sent in online anonymously to London Middlesex Crime Stoppers.

In the meantime, Edwards is being remembered for his big heart.

"He touched the lives of so many with his kindness, humour, and unwavering love," wrote the organizer of a GoFundMe campaign launched to help the 21-year-old's family cover funeral costs. "Your generous contributions will go towards honouring his memory with a dignified service, providing comfort to his family and friends during this challenging time."

As of Friday morning, nearly $22,000 has been donated through the fundraiser.

A candlelight vigil for Edwards was also held in Victoria Park on Wednesday night.
