Drivers travelling through the downtown will have to navigate around a two-day road closure this week.
Starting on Monday, York Street between Talbot and Richmond streets will be closed to allow for the large construction crane at Joan's Place to be removed. The crane has been a fixture on York Street throughout the construction of the new Youth Opportunities Unlimited (YOU) affordable housing development.
One westbound lane of the road has been closed for many months due to the new build, but in order to get the crane out the entire road has to be shuttered.
A detour will be in place to help drivers get around the closure using York Street, Richmond Street, Ridout Street, Horton Street and Talbot Street. There will also be sidewalk restrictions and closures while the crane is removed. Pedestrians are encouraged to use nearby streets to get where they are going instead.
People will still be able to access businesses, residents and other properties in the area during the closure, city officials said.
The road is expected to reopen on Wednesday.
Joan's Place, a five-storey, 35 unit building for young mothers and pregnant women who are at risk of homelessness is expected to open in the fall.
