One person hurt, horse killed in hit-and-run northeast of Aylmer

Provincial police are probing a hit-and-run northeast of Aylmer that saw a horse-drawn buggy rear-ended, killing the animal.

The buggy was being pulled along Carter Road near Glencolin Line in Malahide Township when it was hit from behind by a vehicle just after 10 a.m. on Wednesday. The vehicle reportedly took off from the scene after the crash and was last seen heading north on Carter Road.

The lone occupant of the buggy was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The horse was killed.

The vehicle involved in the crash is described as a white "U-Haul" cube van, which is likely to have damage to the front-end, Elgin OPP said on Thursday.

Investigators are urging the driver of the vehicle to contact police.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has dashcam footage from the area around the time of the collision is asked to call police at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-84777 (TIPS).
